Published 29/06/16

Between the 15th and 16th of June 2016 the Life+ Symposium “New tendencies and challenges in the recovery of contaminated land ” was held. The objective was to present advances in innovative technologies for the diagnostic and recovery of contaminated sites.

The event took place in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Montes, Forestales y Medio Natural of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and was organised within the framework of four on-going LIFE projects: Bioxisoil, I+Darts, RiverPhy y Discovered.

Emgrisa participated in the symposium with the presentation: “Evaluation of the techniques used in the treatment of tailings from gold mining operations“, performed by Raúl López Márquez, who presented the results of the technologies and tests evaluated within the project “Reduce exposure of Mercury to Human Health and the Environment by Promoting Sound Chemical Management in Mongolia “, promoted by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) which awarded said project to the consortium constituted by the public companies Emgrisa and Mayasa

But the participation of the companies from the Enusa group did not end there. The person in charge of the Environmental Centre of Ciudad Rodrigo of Enusa, Javier Ruiz Sanchez-Porro, presented the project related to the “Remediation tests through the application of Tecnosoles in areas with acid drainage of the uranium mining operations of Saélices El Chico (Salamanca)“, where the effectiveness of artificial soils is being evaluated for the treatment of surface water and degraded soils.

We highlight the success of attendance at the symposium and the high technical quality of the projects presented in it. Emgrisa and Enusa would like to congratulate the Organising Committee  and to thank them for the opportunity to present some of the innovative projects that the ENUSA group is developing.

We anticipate that the experience gained served to promote collaborations between different research organizations, institutions and companies, and that in the future, new innovation projects will be developed in the complex but exciting field of the recovery of contaminated land.
