The company Residuos of Melilla S.A. (Remesa), is jointly owned by Emgrisa (50%) and the Autonomous City of Melilla (50%) and operates the Integral Waste Treatment Centre managing the waste generated by the 85,000 inhabitants of this enclave.

In 1994, Emgrisa coordinated the construction of these facilities that consist mainly of an energy recovery plant of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), an authorized centre of end of life vehicles and a centre for the temporary storage of waste, as well as installations for the recycling of packaging. Also admits the handling of hospital waste, tyres, used oils, hydrocarbon sludge, etc.

The energy recovery process manages approximately 30,000 tonnes of waste per year, reducing by over 90% the total mass and generating about 10% of the total electrical consumption of the autonomous city.

This facility has installed modern equipment and efficient process systems in line with the legal requirements.

The centre possesses the Integrated Environmental Authorization of the Integral Waste Treatment Plant: 005/07-AAI Unified Authorization No. 031/34-GT/RTP, Authorized Centre for the Reception and Decontamination of end of life Vehicles and Waste Transfer Centre.
